What About Recent U.S. Tariffs?

Recent broad import tariffs have continued to exclude informational materials, including printed publications.

This means the temporary 10% import surcharge in effect through July 24, 2026, does not apply to qualifying printed books.

Children’s picture books were also placed on a separate Section 301 tariff list whose additional duty was suspended before it took effect.

That suspension remains in place.

Some other printed books, particularly text-heavy books classified in a different category, may still be subject to a 7.5% tariff.

This is generally not the category used for a standard picture-led board book.

Do All Board Books Qualify?

Most conventional board books do qualify.

However, the finished product matters more than the name used to describe it. A book may need a closer review when it includes features such as the following:

Sound buttons or electronic parts
Plush or fabric elements
Magnets, puzzles or toys
Flashcards or activity pieces
Multiple products packaged as a gift set
Large amounts of text with limited illustrations

These products can still be printed and imported successfully. Their added components may simply place them in a different product category.

Our team reviews the format and special features of your book before preparing your quote, helping make sure the expected costs are considered from the beginning.
