From File to Finished Board Book

OUR PROCESS

Here’s how our process works:

At boardbookprinting.com, we know printing a board book can feel overwhelming — especially if it’s your first time. That’s why we’ve developed a clear, four-stage process to guide you from pre-press to delivery.

Whether you're an author, illustrator, or publisher, understanding our workflow helps you plan confidently and avoid surprises.

1. Pre-Press: Getting Started Right

Blog Image 1Once you’ve accepted your official quote and submitted your print-ready files, we begin the pre-press phase.

This is where our team reviews your artwork to ensure everything is set up for high-quality printing. If you’re new to formatting board books, we highly recommend working with a professional designer experienced in print production. It can save you time and frustration — and improve the quality and sell-ability of your book.

We’re here to support and guide you through the process, but the design and formatting are in your hands.

Once your files are approved, we’ll move forward to the next step together!

2. Physical Proofing: Your Book Comes to Life

Blog Image 1We believe in seeing before printing.

Every quote includes one physical bound proof — a digitally printed sample of your board book. This is your chance to touch and feel your book before it goes to press.

Proofing is the time to fine-tune the details. Check for formatting issues, typos, and layout concerns. Take your time here — getting it right now helps avoid costly reprints later.

Once you give us your approval, we move into production.

3. Production: Where the Magic Happens

We print using offset presses, known for vibrant color and sharp detail.

Our standard Quick Quote board books typically take about 2 weeks to produce.

Custom books with special features — like sensory textures, pop-ups, or mirror sheets — may take closer to 3 weeks.

It takes a little extra time and planning, but (in our opinion!) the wow factor is worth it.

4. Shipping: From Our Facility to Your Door

Blog Image 1We offer all-in pricing that includes shipping, customs, taxes, and delivery to your door — no surprise fees, and no guesswork.

Most clients choose sea shipping for its value and reliability.

Need your books sooner?

We also offer air shipping and even split shipments to get part of your order to you faster while keeping the rest cost-effective.

It takes a little extra time and planning, but (in our opinion!) the wow factor is worth it.

Plan with Confidence

Every board book project is unique. While we can’t guarantee specific dates due to variables like file readiness or global shipping conditions, we do include a tailored timeline with your quote. Our logistics team manages your project and keeps you updated throughout the process.

Need help backward scheduling so you hit your launch date with time to spare? Just ask — we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
